Friday Agent Spotlight

Posted Friday, February 16, 2018 by Brittany Anderson

This week we sat down with Paul Chicoine and asked him some questions for our Friday Agent Spotlight. Paul embodies the phrase,"work hard, play harder."  This surfer has a winning track record of real estate sales in Hawaii and still finds the time to hang ten. Paul lists some of the most luxurious homes on the Kona-Kohala Coast and specializes in the Big Island luxury resort real estate.  If you can't find Paul, check the surf report!

Tell us a little about yourself: Originally from California, moved to Hawaii in 1992. Spent 10 years in Hawaii sales & marketing / executive committee for Marriott, Hyatt, and Starwood hotels. Moved into real estate in 2002 and worked in new homes sales and development for 15 years, 5 of which were with Elite, focused on business development, helping Elite grow from 40 agents doing $243,000,000 in sales to 200 agents doing over $1B in sales.

I have been married for 20 years to my wife who I met on Maui; she had moved from her homeland in England!  We have two wonderful children and love the Hawaii lifestyle!

What do you like best about living on the Big Island? The open space, amazing mountain views, and the stunning clarity of the ocean.  As a surfer, it's wonderful to surf in warm water, with friendly people, and less crowded than what I was used too.  I enjoy the great diversity of the Island ecosystems, from sunny white sand beaches to tropical rainforests.  There is so much to do every day! I also love the variety of beautiful golf courses!

What's your favorite activity outside of work? Hands down, spending time with my family.  I have twin 10-year-olds, a boy and a girl.  Since they love to surf, the most epic times are sitting in the line up with my two kids catching waves on a sunny glassy day!  My kids are state champ swimmers so we spend a lot of time on the weekends at swim meets.  We also got addicted to snowboarding, so we love to plan family trips to Canada and Montana.

What do you like most about working at Elite Pacific Properties? Elite truly cares about their people and the culture at Elite is all about support and teamwork.  The company operates with amazing transparency and every team members know where every dollar goes; which is mostly back to the agents for support and marketing.

Do you have a favorite home that you've listed recently? I have to say after working on this project for two years, Makai Vistas at Waikoloa is amazing.  I started working on this before subdivision approval so to see houses coming out of the ground now and the Model home opening March 24th, it's kind of like a family member.  It's grown up and ready for new homeowners! There is something about a Brand New home that gets me excited! Better than that new car smell!   My other current favorite home I have on the market is this beautiful Kailua-Kona home with infinity pool swim up bar, spa, open concept luxury kitchen, and so many more spectacular features. The seller is the architect and he built this home for him and his wife.  It's pretty special when you see an architect create their own home!

If someone is thinking about moving or buying property on the Big Island, what is your best advice? Book an Elite Vacation Rental in the area in which you are considering so you can get a really good feeling about the community and make sure it's the right fit for you.  There is one thing about looking at homes while visiting the island, but it's really a good idea to spend a few nights in the neighborhood you are considering.

What's your favorite beach on the Big Island and why? That is so hard... there are so many amazing beaches.  Some folks don't think the Big Island has that many beaches. One reason is that they can't see them when driving.  What first comes to mind is, of course, Mauna Kea and Hapuna because they are white sandy beaches with turquoise water and amenities, but I would say Mahai'ula Beach at the Kekaha Kai State beach park is one of my top favorites.  It's a little bumpy getting down there, but the white sand against the black lava and turquoise water is spectacular.   There is also surfing there which I love!

If I wasn’t selling real estate I’d be...out in the line up!
