Agent Spotlight Kristi Cotton–Big Island

Posted Friday, April 20, 2018 by Brittany Anderson

This week we sat down with Big Island agent, Kristi Cotton and asked her some questions for our Agent Spotlight. Kristi is all about Big Island adventure–from the top of Mauna Kea to the ocean floor! She also has an excellent eye for seeing a home’s potential and lived in several of Hawaii Island’s major towns making her an excellent resource for homebuyers.

Tell us a little about yourself:  I grew up in San Diego, California and moved to Hawaii 24 years ago to enjoy working year round as a Lifeguard.  Having lived near the ocean all my life, Hawaii was a natural fit. I began my Hawaii adventure on Oahu, and not long after moving here doors started to open, and I transitioned into a position in sales for a visitor television network, where I had tremendous success selling television advertising, and increasing the companies revenue exponentially over many years.  In 1998 I moved to the Big Island and have lived in Hilo, Kona and now Waimea. I've spent many years buying, remodeling, and selling homes here on the Big Island. It didn't take long for me to realize real estate was a perfect fit for me. I have two amazing kids that are the pride and joy in my life and a wonderful supportive husband. I have a passion for health and exercise and love cooking plant-based meals for my family.
What do you like best about living on Hawaii Island? I love being surrounded by the natural beauty and diversity this island has to offer.  The fact that it's possible to swim in the ocean, mountain bike on a volcano, and snowboard the world’s highest mountain all in one day is amazing to me.  There is always an adventure waiting to be had on this island, and with perfect weather, you can play comfortably every day of the year.

What's your favorite activity outside of work? Mountain biking is my passion.  I love the variety of places I can ride here on the Big Island.  Whether it's riding near the coast in Kona on lava fields, through Eucalyptus forests in Hamakua, or on a long trail with fields of green on Mana Road with Mauna Kea in the distance, being on my bike and in nature connects me to a higher level and lifts my spirits making me as happy as anyone can possibly be.

What do you like most about working at Elite Pacific Properties?  The wonderful people!  I'm so grateful to be a part of a team that feels like a family, and a company that truly supports its agents and genuinely wants us to be as successful as we can be.  With the company theme of the year as Happy and Successful Agents, what more could one ask for!

Do you have a favorite home that you've listed recently?  My new listing on Ohiaku Place is my most favorite listing to date.  It's in the best Waimea dryside location, walking distance to Hawaii Preparatory Academy and is a rare find.  It's a 5-acre estate with sweeping ocean and coastline views as far as the eye can see. It's rare to find a property in Waimea with such fantastic ocean views.  Not only do you get the ocean views, but you also have stunning mountain views, and a seasonal stream with a gentle waterfall on the property. And that's not all, the home is a perfect balance of Waimea charm and Hawaiiana luxury, with expansive open lanai's, rich wood flooring and high vaulted ceilings, and accented with custom woodwork.  And if that isn't enough, it has separate guest quarters and two two-car garages!

If someone is thinking about moving or buying property on the Big Island, what is your best advice?  Visit the area first, and spend some time driving around and exploring the neighborhoods.  Get a feel for what it's like to enjoy a slightly cooler area of the island, yet so close to the beaches.  Waimea is a fantastic place to live and has a strong, tight-knit community feel. Take time to shop at our local farmer's markets, and meet the people here.

What's your favorite beach on Hawaii Island and why?  Mauna Kea Beach...because it's got everything.  A beautiful white sand beach, fantastic swimming, and snorkeling, beachside restaurant, and the best place to enjoy a sunset picnic.

If I wasn’t selling real estate, I’d be...Traveling the world, looking for our next adventure with my family and my mountain bike, swim goggles, and snowboard!
