Did you know Kapiolani Park is one of Oahu’s most haunted places? As it turns out, the family and tourist-friendly beachfront park east of Waikiki is a long-time place for paranormal activity. Once the site of an ancient heiau (a sacred Hawaiian temple), Kapiolani’s history of restless spirits haunting the grounds demigods once ruled dates back centuries. Legend has it many of those ghosts still visit Kapiolani today. Even spookier, it’s been said that the area remains haunted by Inugami, the Japanese dog demon, and by Aswang, the Filipino version of a vampire. While we can pretty much assume nobody—and we mean nobodywould want to run into one of these ghastly apparitions on Halloween night, we’ve put together a short list of the most festive ways to celebrate everyone’s favorite fright-filled, candy-eating extravaganza—island style!
